How to Use the File Manager: Upload, Edit, Extract

Everything the browser-based File Manager can do: uploading, editing configs, extracting archives, and moving files without FTP.

How to Use the File Manager: Upload, Edit, Extract

The File Manager tab gives you full browser-based access to your server's files โ€” no FTP client required, though SFTP is also available if you prefer a desktop tool.

What You Can Do From It

  • Browse and navigate your server's entire file structure, exactly as it exists on disk.
  • Edit text files directly โ€” configs, .properties files, .yml files, scripts โ€” with a built-in code editor (syntax highlighting included for common formats).
  • Upload files by drag-and-drop or the Upload button โ€” plugin jars, mod files, custom maps, whatever you need to add.
  • Download files or folders back to your computer, individually or zipped.
  • Extract archives โ€” upload a .zip (a modpack, a world backup, a plugin bundle) and extract it in place without needing to unzip it locally first.
  • Compress files/folders into a .zip โ€” useful before downloading a full world or config backup.
  • Rename, move, copy, and delete โ€” standard file operations, all from the same interface.
  • Create new files and folders directly, for when you need an empty config or a new directory structure.

Practical Uses

  • Installing a plugin/mod manually: upload the .jar/.zip into the correct folder (plugins/ for most Minecraft plugin loaders, mods/ for Forge/Fabric) and restart.
  • Editing server.properties or a YAML config: click the file, edit directly in the browser, save โ€” no download/re-upload round trip needed.
  • Moving a world or map: upload a .zip of the world folder, extract it, then point your config at the new folder name.
  • Quick backups before a risky change: select the folder you're about to touch, compress it, download the zip โ€” a fast manual safety net on top of the scheduled backup system.

Permissions and File Size

  • Large uploads (a big modpack, a multi-GB world) can take a while over a browser upload โ€” for very large transfers, SFTP (accessible with your panel credentials) is usually faster and more reliable than the browser uploader.
  • File Manager access respects Subuser permissions โ€” if you've added team members, you can grant or withhold file access independently of console or backup access.
  • Deletions here are immediate and permanent (not sent to a trash folder) โ€” for anything important, compress and download a copy first, or make sure a recent backup exists before doing a bulk cleanup.

This is genuinely the single most useful tab on the panel for day-to-day server management โ€” most configuration work happens right here.
