How to Create and Restore a Backup, Step by Step

Your plan includes a real backup tool built into the panel — here's exactly how to use it, since "we have backups" isn't useful if you don't know how to actually trigger or restore one.

Creating a Manual Backup

1. Go to your service's Backups tab.
2. Click Create Backup.
3. Optionally give it a name (helpful if you're about to make a risky change and want to find "before the update" quickly later) and choose whether to lock it against automatic deletion.
4. You can optionally exclude specific folders/files (useful for skipping huge, easily-redownloadable folders like a mod's cache directory, to keep the backup smaller and faster).
5. The backup runs in the background — you can keep using the server while it completes. You'll see it appear in the list once done, with its size and timestamp.

Restoring a Backup

1. Find the backup you want in the Backups list.
2. Click the three-dot menu next to it and choose Restore.
3. Confirm — this overwrites your current files with the backup's contents. Anything created or changed after that backup was taken (that isn't in the backup) will be gone.
4. The server needs to be stopped for a restore to run; if it's online, you'll be prompted to stop it first.

How Many You Get and What Happens When You're Full

Your plan includes a set number of backup slots (check your product page — it ranges from 1 on entry Budget tiers up to 4 on Performance tiers). Once you hit that limit, you'll need to delete an old one before creating a new one — or buy the backup slots add-on if you consistently need more history kept at once.

Automating It

Don't want to remember to click "Create Backup" regularly? Set up a Schedule (see the Schedules tab) that runs on a timer — daily, weekly, whatever cadence makes sense for how often your world/data actually changes. That way a recent backup always exists without you having to think about it.

The Honest Reminder

This tool is real and it works — but per our reliability post, it's self-service: nobody's doing it silently for you in the background unless you set up a schedule yourself. If your server matters to you, actually use this tab — don't assume it's happening automatically.
