Hytale vs Minecraft Hosting: Key Differences
How Hytale server hosting is likely to differ from Minecraft hosting, based on what we know about the engine, and what stays the same.
Hytale vs Minecraft Hosting: Key Differences
It's tempting to assume Hytale hosting will just be "Minecraft hosting with a different name," since both are voxel-based building/survival games with active building and mod/plugin ecosystems. Some things carry over. Others genuinely don't.
What's Likely to Carry Over
- The hosting fundamentals โ NVMe storage for fast world loading, DDoS protection, and a proper control panel all matter the same way regardless of which game is running
- The basic economics of server sizing โ more concurrent players and more loaded chunks/zones will need more RAM and CPU, the same relationship Minecraft admins already understand
- Community management challenges โ moderation, griefing prevention, whitelist/permission systems are genre problems, not Minecraft-specific ones
What's Genuinely Different
- Separate server software entirely. Hytale doesn't run on Spigot, Paper, Forge, or any existing Minecraft server jar โ it has its own dedicated server binary and, eventually, its own modding/scripting API.
- A different (and still-evolving) plugin/mod ecosystem. Minecraft's plugin ecosystem (Bukkit-derived) has had over a decade to mature. Hytale's tooling is newer and will take time to reach the same breadth.
- Unknown long-term update cadence. Minecraft's update history (and the corresponding hosting adjustments needed for each major version) is well documented after years of releases. Hytale doesn't have that history yet.
What This Means for Hosting Decisions
If you're currently running a Minecraft server and considering adding or switching to Hytale, don't assume your existing Minecraft plan's specs will map directly โ treat it as a new sizing decision once real server requirements are published, rather than reusing Minecraft-era assumptions.
RepublicNodes supports both Minecraft and Hytale on the same underlying panel, so if you do want to run both (or migrate a community from one to the other over time), you're not managing two completely separate hosting relationships to do it.
