How to Set Up Your RepublicNodes Mailbox in Outlook

Got a mailbox from our Mail Hosting plans? Here's how to connect it to Outlook (desktop or web).

What You'll Need First

From your mailbox service's management page, grab:

• Your full email address
• Your mailbox password
• The IMAP and SMTP server hostnames and ports (shown on your service's details/actions page)

Outlook Desktop (Windows/Mac)

1. Open Outlook and go to File → Add Account (or Outlook → Settings → Accounts on Mac).
2. Enter your full email address and click Connect.
3. If Outlook doesn't auto-detect the settings, choose manual setup / advanced options and select IMAP.
4. Enter:
   • Incoming mail (IMAP): the IMAP hostname and port from your service page, with SSL/TLS enabled.
   • Outgoing mail (SMTP): the SMTP hostname and port from your service page, with SSL/TLS (or STARTTLS) enabled and authentication required.
5. Enter your mailbox password when prompted.
6. Finish setup — Outlook will do an initial sync of your inbox.

Outlook on the Web / New Outlook

If you're using Outlook.com's "Add another account" feature (rather than a Microsoft account), the same IMAP/SMTP process applies — Outlook.com supports connecting external IMAP mailboxes through Settings → Sync email.

Common Setup Issues

• "Cannot connect to server" — double-check you're using the exact hostname and port shown on your service page, not a generic guess like mail.yourdomain.com unless that's specifically what's shown.
• Authentication failed — use your full email address as the username, not just the part before the @, and confirm you're using your mailbox password (not your RepublicNodes account password — they're separate).
• Emails send but don't arrive, or land in recipients' spam — check our SPF/DKIM/DMARC guide, especially if you're using a custom domain.

SMTP Relay Plans Are Different

If you're on an SMTP relay plan rather than a full mailbox plan, there's no inbox to connect to Outlook — relay plans are for sending mail from your own app/website, not for receiving. See our SMTP relay setup guide instead.

Once connected, your mailbox behaves exactly like any other email account in Outlook — full send/receive, folders, and search, all synced via standard IMAP.
