What a Prorated Upgrade Actually Costs
Upgrading (or downgrading) a plan mid-cycle doesn't mean paying full price again or losing the time you already paid for — it's genuinely prorated, calculated on the exact price difference and days remaining. Here's the real math.
The Formula
(new plan price − old plan price) ÷ days in billing period × days remaining
That result is what you're actually charged (or credited, if it's negative) right now, immediately — not at your next renewal. Your expiry date doesn't move; you're simply paying (or being refunded) for the difference in what the plan is worth over the time you already have left.
A Worked Example
Say you're on a ₹720/month plan with 15 days left in a 30-day cycle, and you upgrade to a ₹960/month plan:
- Price difference: ₹960 − ₹720 = ₹240
- Per-day rate: ₹240 ÷ 30 days = ₹8/day
- Remaining days: 15
- Charged today: ₹8 × 15 = ₹120
You pay ₹120 now for the upgrade, and your next full renewal (at the new plan's full price) happens on your normal, unchanged expiry date.
Downgrading Works the Same Way, in Reverse
If the new plan is cheaper, the calculation comes out negative — and instead of a cash refund, that amount is added to your account as credit, automatically applied to your next invoice.
The Coupon Exception
If your original purchase used a coupon, a downgrade's credit is capped at what you actually paid — so you can't end up "refunded" more than the discounted price you originally paid for the remaining period.
What Doesn't Get Prorated
Add-ons and config options you change alongside a plan upgrade are prorated using the exact same formula, individually, and summed into the same total charge — so a combined "upgrade plan + add more backup slots" action shows one clean total, not two separate transactions.
