Migrate your website to RepublicNodes

Moving hosts doesn't need downtime if you do it in this order.

1. Copy everything

Back up your files and database on the old host, and download them.

2. Restore on the new host

Upload the files, create a database and user, import the SQL dump, and update database credentials in your config (wp-config.php for WordPress).

3. Test before switching

Preview the site using your hosts file or a temporary URL. Check pages, forms, logins and images.

4. Lower your DNS TTL

A day before, set your domain's DNS TTL to something short (300 seconds) so the switch spreads quickly.

5. Switch DNS

Point your domain at the new hosting. Keep the old host running for a couple of days until everything has propagated.

6. Email

If your email was with the old host, migrate mailboxes and update MX records at the same time, or mail can be lost. See Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
