Edit server.properties from the panel

The Properties tab (owner only) lets you edit the most important settings without opening the file.

Commonly changed settings

Setting Effect
gamemode Default mode for new players
difficulty peaceful, easy, normal or hard
max-players Player slot limit
view-distance Chunks sent to players โ€” lower it to reduce lag
simulation-distance Chunks that are actively ticked
white-list / enforce-whitelist Restrict who can join
online-mode Verify accounts with Mojang โ€” keep true unless behind a proxy
motd The message in the server list

Applying changes

Most properties only apply after a restart. Never change server-port unless you know your allocation โ€” it must match your primary allocation on the Network tab.

Editing the file directly

You can also open server.properties in the Files tab. Use one key=value per line and avoid extra spaces.
